POLICIES
Thank you for choosing Mach 1 Music as your music education source. It is our commitment to provide you with the best possible instruction and guidance to promote the highest musical growth. We are an equal opportunity facility. All levels of experience are welcome, from beginner to advanced, from the person who just wants to play for their own enjoyment to the person who is shooting for the stars…

Cost/Payment:
1/2-hour Private lessons: $25.00
1- hour Private lessons: $50.00

Security deposit:
The first month of enrollment is often considered a trial period where the student/parent decide whether to make the commitment to continue the lessons. Once the commitment is made a one-month Non-refundable security retainer must be paid. Payment options can be arranged if necessary. Because you are in essence “renting time/space” We require a one months notice if you plan on quitting and the security deposit is in effect your last months rent. If you choose to discontinue lessons without giving the required notice the deposit will be used to cover that time.

Payment options:
Cash and checks are accepted. A $40.00 fee will be charged on all returned checks. If there is more than one occurrence of a returned check, cash will be the only acceptable form of payment.

THERE ARE NO REFUNDS!!!

Lessons are paid on a monthly schedule. Payments are due the first week of the month for the entire month- No Exceptions. Depending on the month, there will be either 4 or 5 weeks. It is the responsibility of the parent/student to check your calendar for the appropriate number of weeks in a given month.

4 weeks @ 1/2 hour = $100.00
5 weeks @ 1/2 hour = $125.00

4 weeks @ 1-hour = $200.00
5 weeks @ 1-hour = $250.00

Late fee:
If payment is not made during the first week of the month, a $10.00 fee will be added to the balance each week payment is late. You will not be in for your lesson the first week of the month, you can either pay ahead of time or mail your payment to the address above.

Policies and Procedures:
Lessons are always paid in full at the beginning of each month for the entire month. Failure to do this will result in a late fee of $10.00 each week complete payment for the month is not made. If you miss a lesson, there will be no refunds or deductions from the next month’s payment. A make-up lesson will be scheduled.

Cancelations:
All cancellations must be made 24 hours before your scheduled lesson time. Failure to do so will result in your being charged for that time. There is no benefit to us for a forfeited lesson and we want all of our students to get what they paid for, so PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CALL. In the case of extreme emergency it will be at the instructors discretion only if a make-up will be scheduled. There have been too many instances where people cancel late or do not show up at all (and expect compensation for that time). No make-up will be offered in these situations. Our time is valuable and cannot be squandered. If you know well ahead of time that you will be out on a particular lesson day, let your instructor know as soon as possible. This enables us to have a clearer picture of our up-coming schedule, especially concerning times for make-ups.

If you are feeling sick the day before your lesson, or for some reason you think that you might not be able to make it and are hesitant to cancel, call and let us know. It is probably best if you cancel, and if you find that you can make your lesson, call to see if the spot is still available. On occasion teachers will have multiple cancellations leaving large holes in their schedules. In an attempt to rectify this problem we try to fill the open spots with students who are owed a make-up first. If there are still openings we will try to consolidate by sometimes asking you if you can come at a different time or even a different day.

If you miss 2 consecutive lessons without contacting us, we assume that you are quitting and give your spot to the next available person. There are no refunds. An open line of communication is very important, if you have questions about anything please do not hesitate to call. It is the sole responsibility of the student/parent to contact us regarding a lesson cancellation. There are several ways for you to do this.

Make-up lessons:
If a student cannot not meet for his/her regular lesson a make-up will be scheduled. (Provided the lesson was cancelled in time). There are other reasons in which make-ups are given, they include: holidays, snow days or any other weather related problems, vacations, power outage, and an instructors absence. In short, lessons are always paid in full at beginning of the month; any missed lessons are made-up provided the lesson was canceled in time.

Make-up lessons do not expire and will be scheduled when a time is coordinated between the student/parent and the instructor. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to let the teacher know when you are available to make-up the lesson.

Make-up lessons follow the same guidelines as a regular lesson. For example, if a student has a make-up scheduled after their regular lesson, making it an hour or more. When the student shows up for that lesson, they cannot say “I don’t want to do the make-up today”. This falls under the 24-hour cancellation deadline and the make-up will be forfeited. This scenario occurs far to often.

If you know ahead of time that you will be out, please let us know, as we may have an opportunity before hand to make-up the lesson. Also, by informing us well in advance that you will be out, we know that your spot is available that day for a make-up for someone else. This system works very well when everyone does their part.

There are instances where multiple lessons are owed to a student. This is not uncommon and we understand that situations arise where multiple lessons are missed. There is no reason to panic, as it is not our intention to deny anybody what is owed to them. Students/parents need to coordinate with their instructor a suitable time to make-up the lessons. I cannot stress the importance of keeping an open line of communication with your instructor.

Leave of absence:
In the event a student needs to take a leave of absence, one month’s notice must be given. The time-slot cannot be held unless a one-month deposit is given. When you plan on returning we will need at least two weeks notice to make sure your spot is open and the deposit will be used towards payment due when you return.

Summer schedule:
Taking the summer off is not recommended. Summer is a great time for musical growth; there is usually more time to practice than during the school year. If you plan to take the summer off, this falls under the leave of absence guidelines.

We know most people including ourselves go on vacations during the summer. This falls under the lesson cancellation guidelines. The sooner you let us know your vacation plans the easier it is for us to schedule make-ups.

Sports/Extra curricular activities schedule:
If a student is involved in sports, or other activities that might interfere with lessons. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to let their instructor know of any potential schedule change. If you must discontinue lessons due to the schedule change, this would fall under the leave of absence guidelines.

Quitting:
If you are planning to quit studying with us here at Mach 1 Music, please don’t feel as though you are offending anybody. We understand that even our most loyal students must eventually move on. Regardless, we still need one-month notice.

On many occasions people inform us that they will be discontinuing with their lessons either on the last week of a month or before their lesson in the new month. In either case this is unacceptable. If you must discontinue studying at Mach 1 Music, one-month’s notice must be given. This time is needed for us to fill the vacated spot. If you do not give the minimum one-month’s notice, your security deposit will be used for that time.

All of the instructors here at Mach 1 Music work very hard to provide the best music education possible. The above-mentioned problems only detract from our objectives. We strive for fairness and equality for everyone (including the instructors).

If you have any questions regarding these or any other matters please do not hesitate to call or stop in and talk to me in person.

Thank you for your cooperation,
